Synthetic approaches to pendant carbon and silicon based tris(2-pyridyl) functionalized monomers and their polymerizations are presented. Examples include ROMP of norbonenyl tris(2-pyridyl)silane (1)  as well as RAFT polymerization of tris(2-pyridyl)methylacrylate (2 ). Synthesis, characterization, and exploration of morphologies and dynamic behavior for homo- and co-polymers of these neutral chelates is described. Metal complexation prior to and post polymerization has been explored with various transition metal fragments, with a focus on the development of functional polymers and stimuli-responsive materials.
