Novel nanophasic amphiphilic conetworks possessing either pH or temperature responsive behavior have been synthesized and investigated. These new polymer conetwork gels possess smart swelling behavior in broad ranges of response intensities. The response characteristics strongly depend on composition and structural parameters of these conetworks. Our results indicate that mechanically stable amphiphilic polymer conetworks and gels can be prepared with desired pH and temperature response. These new materials afford controlling not only the range of response but also the intensity of the corresponding property change. Utilizing these properties can lead to a large variety of specialty applications.
