Thiostannate anions have attracted considerable interest for the variety of structural motifs they generate and the rich array of three-dimensional architectures that results.  This work focuses on the solvothermal synthesis and structural characterization of a series of [Sn2S6]4- complexes incorporating the tetradentate ligand tris(2-aminoethyl)amine.  The [tren]2[Sn2S6] complex has been prepared in both its anhydrous and dihydrate forms, and may be readily generated across a variety of reaction conditions.   A series of complexes of the general form [(tren)M]2[Sn2S6] (M = Co2+, Zn2+, Fe2+) have also been studied. The Co and Zn structures both crystallize in C2/c with trigonal bipyramidal metal centers bridged by the thiostannate anion.  The Fe(II) analog has a similar configuaration, but crystallizes in P1 symmetry.   Efforts to further extend this series are discussed, along with some of the unanticipated complexes that have been characterized to date.
