SRI International, a nonprofit organization, is guided by 'Five Disciplines of Innovation': perform at the lowest possible cost in the shortest possible time; leverage the full genius of SRI's extended teams; create and deliver highest customer value; use best practices driven by continuous improvement; and eliminate non-value-added activities. These disciplines are multiplicative, i.e., if any discipline is zero, then the product is zero. Successful innovation requires recognizing the critical customer and market needs, acting as a champion, creating exceptional value by satisfying the needs through team work, organizational realignment where required, and finally being an entrepreneurial champion. SRI pursues funding mechanisms that include basic research grants, internal R&D, R&D services, industry alliances and new ventures. Successful case histories that lead to creation of high value through spin-offs will be discussed to highlight the entrepreneurial spirit that thrives at SRI.
