Driven by a mission to develop and promote young women at the start of their careers in chemistry, the Women Chemists Committee created the Eli Lilly/WCC Travel Award Program in 1989.  Over the past 23 years, financial assistance has been provided to over 500 young female scientists, enabling them to present their research at national scientific conferences.  The opportunity to present results for the first time in a national forum is a highly motivating experience for these young women at a crucial time in their developing careers.  The impact of this successful program in encouraging women in chemistry careers will be reviewed.
