Guanidine alkaloids are widely distributed in nature and include many biologically important molecules. Marine sponges produce a plethora of fascinating, structurally diverse guanidine secondary metabolites usually containing 2-aminoimidazole or 2-aminoimidazolidine. Since the discovery of the first alkaloid of this family, Oroidin, in 1971 many hundreds of such compounds have been isolated. Oroidin has been shown to be a potential anti-bacterial lead molecule. We have developed structural analogues of Oroidin for the SAR studies through imidazopyrimidine chemistry, and the anti-bacterial activity data of the same was established towards various strains, and the results will be presented.
