Designing the electrocatalyst for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is one of the important issues in catalyst and renewable energy issues. Until now, lots of efforts were reported such as bimetallic alloy, core-shell structures and shape controlled. Beyond the well conducted previous strategy, molecules such as 3-Mercaptopropionic acid (3-MPA) were adsorbed to catalyst surface for better understanding of ORR. We evaluated the reaction kinetics and investigated the effect of this molecule on electronic structure changes and geometric effects of catalyst nanoparticle. By measuring electrochemical measurements, that are CV, CO stripping and PZTC (Potential of Zero Total Charge), and electronic structure measurement techniques such as XPS and XANES, we suggested the possibility of enhancement of ORR by tailoring the surface and effect of adsorbing molecule to nano sized catalyst surface for selective reaction .
