A new unsymmetrical PCP' ligand {C6H4-1-CH2PtBu2-3-CH2iPr2} has been synthesized and metalated onto iridium, forming the complex (tBu2iPr2PCP)IrHCl.  Treatment of this complex with LiBEt3H affords the dihydride complex (tBu2iPr2PCP)IrH2, which shows catalytic activity for the transfer dehydrogenation of alkanes.  The regioselectivity of dehydrogenation by (tBu2iPr2PCP)IrH2 has been determined and is compared to other related iridium pincer catalysts.  This complex was also screened for the catalytic dehydrogenation of other substrates, such as the convestion of amines to nitriles.
