Substituents exert unusually strong effects on copper corroles (compared with other metallocorroles), not only on their redox potentials, but also on their geometric structures and electronic absorption spectra. The measurements in question, however, have been somewhat hampered by the limited choice of �-substituents available for corroles. Against this context, this paper will describe new copper undecaphenylcorroles that permit a considerably more detailed dissection of meso and � substituent effects on the copper corrole core than what has been accomplished to date.
