A series of luminescent lanthanide probes incorporating europium as the emissive center were developed. Lanthanide emission is sensitized by a 7-hydroxycoumarin antenna, whose absorption properties are regulated by the incorporation of redox-sensitive switches. The synthesis, optimization and photophysical characterization of complexes selectively responding to the presence of H2O2 and superoxide is presented.
