Various aspects of phosphate tether-based methodologies that couple both simple and elaborate chemical fragments in a group- and stereoselective fashion will be discussed, including the ability of the phosphate tether to orchestrate several events in one-pot, sequential pathways. Detailed studies probing the implications of resultant ring-size, olefin substitution, and stereochemical complexity on ring-closing metathesis olefination via phosphate tethers will also be reported. Taken collectively, studies will highlight the multifaceted character of phosphate tethers, while bolstering the methodology's worth as a useful tool in the atom-, step-, and redox-economical synthesis of small molecule affecters of biological systems.
