Ultrathin antifouling zwitterionic polymers based on sulfobetaine  were synthesized and applied on reverse osmosis (RO) membranes via initiated chemical vapor deposition (iCVD). The coatings have harnessed the zwitterionic polymer characteristics of superior antifouling, while also providing the ability to modify the delicate membranes' surface properties without affecting membrane performances.
