Synthesis of a novel drug candidate often requires the development of new chemistry and reaction conditions.  This can be driven by the need for higher efficiency, or increasingly by the need to avoid certain reagents or byproducts, such as genotoxic impurities (GTIs).This presentation details the discovery of catalytic technologies to enable the efficient preparation of an HCV polymerase inhibitor and the development of a new route to mitigate GTI concerns.  Included are catalysts to effect C-N, as well as C-C, bond formation.
