The quality attributes and performance of a pharmaceutical drug product depend on both the API and the excipients. One of the important physical properties of a pharmaceutical material is its water content, or more generally, its moisture sorption behavior. In many cases,  pharmaceutical excipients are the main contributors to the moisture sorption by the drug product, and, it is the extent and the variability in moisture sorption behavior by the excipients that are key to drug product performance because it can directly affect chemical and physical stability of a drug product. Dynamic Vapor Sorption technique was used to measure and examine the variability of moisture sorption behavior of several common pharmaceutical excipients. The Guggenheim, Anderson and de Boer (GAB) model was applied to the data to obtain GAB parameters that were used to predict moisture sorption behavior of excipient blends over a wide relative humidity range.
