Two cobalt (II) porphyrins doped in plasticized polyvinylchloride (PVC) membranes were evaluated for the optical response towards imidazole. The membrane is made by dissolving the metalloporphyrins (1w/w%), plasticizer dioctylsabacate (DOS, 69%) and PVC (30%), in THF and spin cast on glass slides. The absorbance of the membrane, in the range of 350 to 600 nm, is measured in aqueous solutions in the presence of various imidazole concentrations. With Co(III)? tetraphenylporphrin, the response time for (t95) is less than 50 s, and its detection limit is ~5 �10-6 M in aqueous solution.   These results will be compared with other cobalt and the rhodium porphyrin based membranes. The response mechanism, the response range and the selectivity are to be studied and discussed.
