Chalcogen-chalcogen bond formation and cleavage are very important processes in chemistry.  For sulfur, selenium, and tellurium, we will present crystallographic, spectroscopic, computational, and chemical evidence that these bonds are formed one electron at a time rather than in a single, concerted two-electron step.
