Ruthenium-catalyzed olefin metathesis reactions represent an attractive and powerful transformation for the formation of new carbon-carbon double bonds [1]. This area is now quite familiar to most chemists as numerous catalysts are available that enable a plethora of olefin metathesis reactions [2]. However, some transformations, such as formations of substituted double bonds, formations of strained rings, etc. still remain challenging. This limitation can be solved by designing new, more active and stable catalysts.During the lecture a number of representative examples of NHC-modified ruthenium based olefin metathesis catalysts [4] will be presented.The author acknowledge the Foundation for Polish Science for 'Team' Programme co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, Operational Program Innovative Economy 2007-2013.
