One of the main problems concerning rechargeable lithium-air batteries is the lack of effective catalyst materials in the air cathode that reduce the overpotentials for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER).  Different bimetallic and trimetallic nanoparticles were examined as the cathode catalysts in a lithium-oxygen battery cell to determine the charging � discharging curves. Cyclic voltammetric measurements of the electrodes coated with the catalysts in organic electrolytes were also carried out to assess the mechanistic details for the formation of lithium peroxide or superoxide on the cathode materials.   The issues on how the binary or ternary alloy phase structures are operative in influencing the electrocatalytic ORR/OER and how the peroxide or superoxide deposition on the cathode materials is manageable in connection with catalyst regeneration will also be discussed.
