Despite the wealth of accumulated research in the ruthenium catalyzed olefin metathesis, there has been an increasing academic interest in this area over the years. On the other hand, still insufficient attention is paid to a comprehensive understanding of new systems, and particularly the influence of the ligand sphere on the initiation mechanism of newly developed Ru-catalysts[1].Following our recent works [2], we decided to investigate differences in terms of activity, complex geometry and initiation mode between five- [3] and six-coordinated sulfoxide alkylidene complexes bearing the same chelating benzylidene ligand.The foregoing results provide an insight into the mechanistic aspects between five- and six-coordinated Hoveyda type sulfur-chelated catalysts.
