We demonstrate that relative plasmon-enhanced photoluminescence(PL) effect on Mn-doped CdS/ZnS (core/shell) and undoped CdS/ZnS quantum dots(QDs) coupled with Ag nanoparticles(NPs). The PL intensity of the reference QDs and the Ag NPs-coupled QDs is measured on the same substrate by using wide-field microscopy technique. The plasmonic enhancement effect is contributed to two factors; Electric field enhancement induced by the Ag NPs increases the PL intensity of the QDs and resonant energy transfer (RET) from the QDs to Ag NPs decreases the PL intensity. The Mn-doped CdS/ZnS QDs show larger plasmonic enhancement than the undoped QDs. It is caused by less efficient RET in the Mn-doped CdS/ZnS QDs than in the undoped ones. At close distance between the metal NPs and the QDs(less than F�rster radius), the minimal spectral overlap between the plasmon absorption peaks of the Ag NPs and the emission peaks of the Mn-doped CdS/ZnS QDs attributes to the less efficient RET. Therefore, the doped QDs can be used as more efficient emitters than the undoped QDs in the metal NPs-coupled plasmonic system.
