Transient absorption spectroscopy has been utilized to probe the different processes involved with solar hydrogen generating systems, including electron injection into TiO2, recombination, and intersystem crossing. These results elucidate the reasons why some systems are more efficient at generating hydrogen than others, and provide intuition on how to further synthesize different sensitizer derivatives for further progress.
