The synthesis of nickel(II) complexes containing  diphosphine ligands with pendant amines of the type [Ni(7PPh2NC6H4X)2](BF4)2 and [Ni(8PPh2NC6H4X)2](BF4)2 will be discussed along with their spectroscopic, structural and electrochemical analysis.  The metal complexes are capable of undergoing a reversible MII/0 reduction and, under acidic conditions, function as hydrogen production catalysts with turn over frequencies ranging from 1,000 � 20,000 s-1.  The role of the ring size, pendant amines and comparison to the previously reported [Ni(PR2NR'2)2]+2 systems will be discussed.
