The assay data of crude oil and feed stocks are becoming more valuable for the petroleum industry.  The data can be used by refineries or clients for refining engineering and crude oil marketing.  Trace metals content in crude oil are important parameters of the crude oil assay and unexpected metals can be toxic for refining process and cause economic loss.   However, there is no effective method for trace metal analysis in oil in the field.  Samples of crude oil have to be sent to lab for test by ICP and other wet chemistry methods involving sophisticated sample reparation process.  In many cases, the test results can only obtained in days and the cost of testing is not effective.   A recently developed energy dispersive XRF method using multiple monochromatic beam excitation, called HDXRF, has proven to be advantageous for trace analysis.  A transportable HDXRF analyzer has been developed for metal analysis in crude oil.  In this paper, detection limits of the analyzer are presented and related data is discussed.
