Chemical Looping Gasification (CLG) is a 3-Step redox process which uses three reactors, i.e. Reducer, Oxidizer and Combustor, to generate hydrogen and/or electricity from carbonaceous fuels while capturing CO2. An oxygen carrier particle, typically iron oxide, is used to perform the aforementioned redox reactions. In this article, the feasibility of adding copper oxide to enhance the rates for coal conversion is investigated by both experiment and ASPEN Plus simulations. According to our preliminary studies, copper addition can potentially increase the coal conversion rate without affecting the overall process efficiency.
