In April of 2000 the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued the final rule �Incentives for Self-Policing: Discovery, Disclosure, Correction, and Prevention of Violations,� commonly referred to as �The Audit Policy.� This rule allows self-disclosure of environmental violations by entities with decreased enforcement by the EPA. The benefits of this program will be reviewed along with an example of how this program was successfully implemented at Weill Cornell Medical College.
