Porphyrins have received attention as chromophores for efficient solar capture in OPV and DSSC devices. These tetrapyrrole macrocycles are limited by single electron redox properties and absorptivities that are not well matched to the solar power spectrum. Accordingly, we are developing a novel porphyrinoid family that displays a multielectron chemistry across the UV-vis spectrum. Moreover, the light harvesting properties of these phlorin chromophores can be tuned by supramolecular binding of anions, allowing the photophysical properties to be tuned for a given application. The synthesis, redox and photophysics of these systems will be presented and potential for incorporation into light harvesting arrays will be discussed.
