Metal nanoparticles are applied widely in heterogeneous catalysis due to their larger surface areas as compared to the bulk counterparts. The catalytic properties of nanoparticles also depend on their size, shape, and composition. In particular, the size and shape of metal nanoparticles dictate the percentage and arrangement of surface atoms available as a platform for catalysis, while the composition dictates the strength of surface-adsorbate interactions via the electronic structure of the metals employed. The goal of this work is to decouple the geometric and electronic factors of nanoparticles contributing to catalysis through the use of different shape-controlled core@shell nanocrystals. This presentation will focus on the synthesis of these nanostructures by seeded-growth method. Prepared samples are characterized by SEM, TEM and STEM to verify core@shell structure. Finally, their catalytic efficacy for a model semihydrogenation process is evaluated.
