Phosphole-based pi-conjugated compounds have recently attracted  significant attention, due their unique electronic properties. The  materials have shown considerable potential for a variety of practical  applications, such as organic light-emitting diodes, field-effect  transistors, and solar cells. Equally desirable for practical  applications are highly ordered bulk phases of the materials, and  self-assembly features have been found to play an important role in the  efficient charge-, ion-, and charge-transfer properties of organic  electronics.This contribution will highlight our latest ventures  into a novel self-assembling phosphole-based system that combines the  amphiphilic nature of lipids and electronic nature of conjugated  phospholes leading to very intriguing materials properties.
