The coordination chemistry of tris(pyrazolyl)borates, commonly referred to as �scorpionates�, is a rich field of interest due to the strongly coordinating behaviour of the tridentate ligand induced by the presence of the negatively charged boron centre and the three coordinating azole donor groups. Metal complexes of tris(1-pyrazolyl)borates and related systems have been extensively investigated for catalysis, spin-cross over phenomena, and enzyme modeling. Due to the high polarity of the B-N bond, poly(pyrazolyl)borates can undergo rearrangements and tend to be unstable towards Lewis acids. Replacing the 1-pyrazolyl groups with 2-pyridyl groups generates a system with higher sigma-donor character, less polarized B-C bonds and overall similar binding geometries.Scorpionate ligands also have the potential to generate unique supramolecular structures when incorporated into polymeric materials. However, there have been few examples of polymeric scorpionates. Herein, we report on the design and incorporation of tris(pyrazolyl)borates tris(2-pyridyl)borates into polymeric structures and the properties of the resulting materials.
