A series of benzobis(imidazole) derivatives with different aryl substituents at 2- and 6- positions have been synthesized from cheap and easily available starting materials. These compounds were fully characterized by a wide range of spectroscopic methods. Their solid-state structures were confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. These highly conjugated compounds show interesting photophysical properties and may be promising candidates for OLED materials.
