Two new donor-acceptor semiconducting copolymers containing benzodithiophene with 3,3,5-trihexylbithienyl substituents have been synthesized (P1  , P2  ).4,7-Dibromobenzo[c][1,2,5] thiadiazole and 1,3-dibromo-5-hexyl-4H-thieno[3,4-c]pyrollo- 4,6(5H)-dione were used as acceptor building blocks . The photovoltaic properties of the donor-acceptor  polymers were tested in bulk hetero junction (BHJ) solar cells with a device structure of ITO/PEDOT; PSS/Polymer:PCBM/Ca/Al. The copolymer P1  (P1: PCBM = 1:4 w/w) exhibited an open circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.99 V, a short circuit current density (Jsc) of 5.36 mA/cm2 and a FF of 0.47 leading to a power conversion efficiency of 2.5 %, while the copolymer P2  (P2: PCBM=1:3 w/w) exhibited a Voc of 0.92 V, a Jsc of 3.22 mA/cm2 and a FF of 0.45 leading to a PCE of 1.3%.
