The synthesis of photovoltaic polymers containing either sulfur or selenium-based heterocycles is a rapidly expanding field of study.  Recently, our group has applied Zr-mediated metallacycle transfer chemistry towards the synthesis of new inorganic polymers with tunable opticoelectronic properties. Specifically, we have focused our efforts on the preparation of conjugated monomers containing heavy main group elements such as tellurium and bismuth, and are now exploring general cross-coupling polymerization strategies to rapidly construct new families of polymeric materials for use in solar cell and light-emitting devices.
