The Verani group is interested in the development of redox-responsive manganese(III) amphiphiles capable of acting as precursors for LB film formation. In this regard, a series of asymmetric pentadentate ligands and their respective manganese(III) metal complexes with hydrophilic and hydrophobic moieties has been studied. The investigation of these manganese complexes can be useful for the development of bioinspired candidates for water oxidation immobilized on solid substrates. We studied the electrochemical properties of these compounds using cyclic voltammetry with redox processes observed at ~ -0.94 V for the Mn(III)/Mn(II) process along with ligand centered processes and film formation using LB methods with collapse pressures ~ 50 mN/m were observed. The composition and molecular integrity of these LB films were studied using UV-visible spectroscopy and infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy where bands for C�H, C=C, and C=N stretching vibrations were identified at ~ 2900, 1605, 1510, and 1590 cm-1, respectively.
