Several derivatives of pyridine-bis(oxazoline), or pybox, have been investigated as sensitizers of lanthanide ion luminescence. Through variation of the substituents at the para position of the pyridine ring, a modulation of the ligands' singlet and triplet states was observed. The photophysical and structural characterization of ligands and metal complexes will be discussed.
