Reaction of the new tridentate ligand (o-(iPr2P)C6H4)2SbPh (referred to as LP2) with CuCl, AgCl and (tht)AuCl afford the corresponding LP2MCl complexes (M = Cu, Ag, Au) which have been characterized by NMR and X-ray analysis.  Remarkably, LP2AuCl complex can be oxidized with o-chloranil (o-O2C6Cl4) to afford a trivalent a stiboranyl complex which has also been fully characterized.  The distorted square planar geometry of the gold atom indicates that oxidation of the antimony forces the gold atom to transition from the monovalent to the trivalent state.  One of the key features of this complex is the presence of a Au-Sb bond of 2.68 � which has been studied by DFT and NBO calculations. tag
