A modified fixed bed gasifier (1.2m I.D. and 2.8m high) with water fluidized separator has been developed. To maximize the capture of soot or unburned carbon, the water fluidized bed and gas/solid separators are equipped in the modified fixed bed gasifier. The oxygen velocity was 45-70Nm3/hr and the feed rate of waste woodchips and RPF were 1-3ton/day. The experiments with 24-50 hours of operation were carried out to determine the effects of bed temperature, solid/oxygen ratio and oxidant on the gas composition, calorific value and carbon conversion. The calorific values of the produced gas decreased with an increase of bed temperature because combustion reaction more actively happened. The average gas composition of waste woodchips is CO: 33.1%, H2: 11.8%, CH4: 4.9%, CO2: 50.1% and that of RPF is CO: 22.9%, H2: 22.6%, CH4: 4.1%, CO2: 43.4%. To investigate the utilization of syngas from the gasifier, the combustion processes by using industrial boiler and gas engine and hydrogen production process were developed.
