While much progress for women has been made over the last couple of  decades, African American, Native American, Asian American and Hispanic  American women are not entering and advancing in the sciences at the  same rates as their Caucasian  counterparts. To explore the issues, the American Chemical Society  (ACS) held a Women Chemists of Color Summit (funded by NSF #1027608)  during the Fall 2010 ACS National Meeting to broaden awareness of  challenges for women of color found at this very specific  intersection of gender and ethnicity; gather more data about women  chemists of color; and provide a forum for building community. This  opportunity has been launched as a new program within ACS Diversity  Programs with a mission to empower women chemists of  color to maximize their opportunities in the chemical profession while  cultivating an environment that fully engages these members.
