Graphene is a potential electrode material for electrochemical energy storage due to its large surface area, high chemical stability, excellent electrical and mechanical properties. Here we present the synthesis and characterization of graphene/Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (G/PEDOT) hybrid and its electrochemical performance in supercapacitor applications. PEDOT was prepared by in-situ polymerization of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene using graphene oxide, as an oxidant under the microwave-assisted condition. The hybrid was characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), atomic force microscope (AFM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and other techniques. The maximum specific capacitance of the hybrid electrodes was 362 F g-1 at a current density of 0.5 A g-1 in 1 M H2SO4 electrolyte solution and the hybrid exhibited excellent electrochemical stability (93 % retention after 10000 cycles at a current density of 5 A g-1). The energy density of the hybrid could reach 34 W h kg-1 at a power density of 25 KW kg-1.
