The dehydrogenation of alkanes is one of the most challenging reactions in organometallic chemistry.  The main drawbacks associated with this process involve the necessity for high reaction temperatures and the poor selectivity observed for acyclic systems. We have begun a program to address these reactivity and selectivity issues using novel iridium complexes. Our successful efforts toward the development of intramolecular, site-selective dehydrogenations of unactivated alkanes will be presented.
