The first structuraly, spectroscopically, and electronically characterized metal-bis-peptide complex is reported. The binuclear [Mn2L2]4+ ion is a macrocyclic �square� containing two spin-independent Mn2+ ions. and is characterized using XRD, ESI-MS, 1H NMR, EPR, CD, and CV. The complex demonstrates that bis-peptides are well suited for accessing desirable ligand design characteristics, such as sterochemical control, multi-metal binding, framework self-assembly, and most importantly, ease of design and preparation of the ligand itself.
