A template is proposed that permits theory-guided nano-engineering of macromolecular materials for control of order (e.g., lattice dimensionality) and dynamics (viscoelasticity).  New techniques for characterizing lattice dimensionality and molecular cooperativity in soft matter materials are developed and presented.  Selective incorporation of dipolar and quadrupolar interactions capable of long range intermolecular electrostatic interaction leads to dramatic improvement of critical properties of organic electro-optic materials.
