Templating role of surfactant molecule self-assembly is widely utilized for preparing various morphology nanomaterials. However, as a similar oil-water-surfactant system, ELM is always reported to control the size of particles at the micron level rather than morphology because of its relatively large size. In this work, we confirm the submicron zinc oxalate is constructed by primary particles of dozens of nanometers in size using XRD, SEM and HRTEM. Primary particles anchored surfactant molecule on the surface exhibits a strong tendency to self-assemble into one dimension ordered array firstly and then higher dimensional close-packed superlattic because interparticle potential is appropriate for chainlike aggregation until situation changes. Based on this mechanism, we achieve the intertransformation between rod-like and plate-like through controlling the size of internal water droplet to change the chance of head-on collisions.
