Design of new materials and structures for efficient catalysis in a broad array of chemical reactions remains a vibrant area of research.  In light of this, control over catalyst size, shape, and phase as well as catalyst support have been extensively studied.  Increasing control over these catalyst parameters has to lead the design of heterostructured nanomaterials as promising new catalysts, and methodologies for generating heterostructured nanomaterials have become increasingly sophisticated.  This talk will highlight our group's recent results in the design and synthesis of catalytically relevant hybrid nanoparticles, including synthesis by stepwise seeded growth and phase segregation of alloy nanoparticles.
