Continuing work on naphthalene and anthracene complexes of {TpW(NO)(PMe3)} has yielded an array of functionalized molecules from these aromatic frameworks.  One area of interest for us has been the regio- and stereoselective addition of carbon electrophiles and nucleophiles to the arene ring.  Recent work with acetal electrophiles has generated a series of 1-substituted anthracenes or 1-ylidene-1,2-dihydroanthracenes, depending on the nucleophile with which the electrophile is followed.  Similar work with naphthalene has yielded a more limited scope of reactivity.  We are also interested in tandem N-bromosuccinimide/nucleophile additions to an anthracene complex.  Given that the added bromide is a moderately good leaving group, we expect that we will be able to exchange it for a nucleophile, generating products with net double nucleophilic additions.Oxidation procedures have been developed to isolate organic molecules from complexes of 1,2-dihydronaphthalenes and Diels-Alder cycloadducts previously described.  Procedures for isolating organics from the reactions described above are underway.
