The copper-catalyzed [3+2] cycloaddition of alkynes and azides constitutes a well-known synthetic route to triazoles (eq 1). We have recently found that when acyl azides were employed in the presence of the copper complex [Tpm*,BrCu(NCMe)]BF4, a novel transformation took place in which the main product was an oxazol derivative.[1] Herein we describe catalyst development for this new reaction as well as mechanistic studies based on experimental as well as theoretical calculations.[1] Cano, I.; �lvarez, E.; Nicasio, M.
