Graphene oxide (GO), formed by exfoliating oxidized graphite, is analyzed to determine the physical dimensions of a population of sheets, an important parameter in the development of new micro technologies and processes. Graphene was oxidized under specific conditions (time etc.), and the resulting solid was sonicated in DI water for an hour. The resulting suspension was then analyzed via disc centrifuge, atomic force microscope, and particle size analyzer. Due to the nonuniformity of the suspensions, a broad range of sizes is observed. Refinement for the measurement techniques and sample preparation has led to samples with well-characterized sheet size populations.
