A series of diruthenium (II,III) compounds of the formula Ru2(DmAniF)3(m-O2C(CH2)mCH=CH2)Cl (1 ) (m = 8, a ;  4, b ;  3, c ) and Ru2(DmAniF)2(m-O2C(CH2)mCH=CH2)2Cl (2 ) (m = 8, a ;  3, b ) (where DmAniF is N,N'-di(m-methoxyphenyl)formamidinate) were prepared from the carboxylate exchange reaction between Ru2(DmAniF)3(OAc)Cl (1 ) or cis-Ru2(DmAniF)2(OAc)2Cl (2 ) and an appropriate carboxylic acid. Compounds 2a  and 2b  underwent olefin cross metathesis reactions catalyzed by (Cy3P)2Cl2Ru(=CHPh) to afford the intramolecular ring-closed derivatives Ru2(DmAniF)2(�-O2C(CH2)mCH=)2Cl   (3 )  (m = 8, a ;  3, b ). X-ray structural studies of compounds 1a  and 2a  revealed minimal changes in the coordination sphere of the Ru2 core. Voltammetric measurements displayed that compounds 1-3  exhibit multiple reversible and quasi-reversible one-electron redox processes.  All Ru2 species described herein  have effective magnetic moments in a narrow range of 3.93 to 3.96 �B (Bohr magneton), which is consistent with three unpaired electrons, S=3/2. Compounds 1 -3  were also analyzed by mass spectrometry and UV-visible spectroscopy
