The synthesis and coordination chemistry of a rare mixed-donor ligand containing two pyridines and one heterocyclic selone, namely the bis(pyridyl)selone (2-py)2se shown below, is described in this presentation.  This new ligand is the selenium analogue of the bis(pyridyl)thione (2-py)2m, whose reactivity we have studied in detail during the past year.  This presentation will focus on the synthesis and characterization of complexes of zinc(II), cadmium(II), mercury(II), and copper(I) and a contrast of the structural differences among the (2-py)2m and (2-py)2se ligand systems.
