Although pyridines and heterocyclic thiones are among the most common nitrogen- and sulfur-donor functionalities, the reactivity of simple bidentate ligands containing both donor groups is virtually unknown.  We have used the (mercaptoimidazolyl)pyridine ligand mpyMe to prepare several series of metal complexes, including (mpyMe)MX2 (M = Co, Zn, Cd, Hg; X = Cl, Br, I) and (mpyMe)M(CO)3 (M = Mn, Re).  We describe herein the synthesis and selected structures of the first derivatives of tin(IV) supported by this ligand system, namely (mpyMe)SnX4 (X = Cl, Br, I) and (mpyMe)SnPhnCl4-n (n = 1, 2).  The antibacterial properties of these complexes will also be described in this presentation.
