The ordered and restricted internal spaces of porous coordination polymers (PCPs) or metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are fascinating to promote the unusual behavior of molecules and ions. Dynamics of the accommodated molecules and ions depend on pore shapes and we could enhance the mobilities of such guests in the crystalline solids.  We have worked on the synthesis of solid-state ion conductors by use of coordination polymers. [Al(14ndc)(OH)] (14ndc = 1,4-naphthalenedicarboxyalate) possesses 1-D straight channels with pore diameter of 1 nm. The compound accommodates the protic organic guest molecules such as imidazole and histamine in the 1-D channels with high density.1 The conductivity is over 10-3 S cm-1 at above 120 �C under anhydrous condition. Versatile combinations of ion carriers and coordination polymer structures are promising for design of solid ion conductors toward the higher conductivity, anisotropic conductivity, and the switching of conductive behavior by external stimuli.
